Overcharged for insurance. I don’t speak French. The one employee at this rural location did not speak English. My paperwork was not ready. She had never heard of my reservation until I showed her my kayak order . She charged me for extra insurance and made me “accept the super coverage”. I felt taken advantage of. Rental process took one hour as she was so busy running the gas station and could not find my paperwork. I want my “super insurance” money back from hertz. I already had purchased the Allianz insurance from hertz. I returned the car one day early and got no discount for that either. Thank you

Picking up the car at a gas station in Bayeux, France was odd and disconcerting. One gas station attendants was available to provide service and advice--in between waiting on other customers. .All worked out as a car (in mediocre condition) was available. we had some difficulty working out its features, and there was no one to give advice. So picking up the car was more stressful than we expected. Dropping it off a week later went well.

The company was closed at our reserved pickup time. When we called a near by location they gave cancelled our reservation because they could contact me by phone… probably because I was on the plane at that time.

Customer service was poor. Staff were busy chatting with each other rather than paying attention to clients. For instance, they should have informed us about the mileage limit, and insurance options when we picked up the car. This is a courtesy I have experienced in all car rentals before but it was missing in Rouen’s Avis. They also forgot to add the second driver to the contract even though we asked them earlier. When reminded, they said they could not do it anymore.
