I have rented many cars in my life and it’s always been a neutral, at best, experience. Ian made it easy and friendly. He’s a great guy. Keep him around! He probably deserves a raise… and that is an unsolicited opinion! Just I’ve been part of running small businesses for decades and have also been part of teams for years and I recognize a special employee when I see them.

I thought my reservation at budget was for a car but when I got there the only thing they had to offer me was a pick up truck at the price quoted. To get a car would have cost an additional $100. The classic bait and switch. Therefore, I just went to Thrifty and got a Camry for $150 less than what I would've paid for the pick up truck. The customer service at Thrifty Rent-A-Car was welcoming, efficient and all-around great! I'll never use budget again.

40 minutes into the rental, the "needs maintenance, take car to dealer for service" screen popped up. After investigating, found a screen that said I had 3508 miles until service was required. Didn't have to delay my trip, but the alert was annoying.

Pickup employee was efficient and friendly. Dropoff employee was impatient and disappeared before telling us receipt would be emailed... we had to ask another renter. It would have only taken a few seconds to communicate this, as well as "thank you". There are many other choices.

The staff were helpful and when I mentioned the car I originally rented had no functioning front turn signals they gave me a nicer car w/o hesitation. The nicer car however was not very clean. There was an artificial fingernail in one of the backseat door compartments and a large rock under the front passenger seat. Other than that I was very pleased with the overall experience.

Reservations vastly underestimate actual charges. Vehicle was dirty inside and out, so i switched to another vehicle that was dirty outside and smelly inside. Charges added for late return of vehicle, due only to the Avis desk being closed during return time. Google maps indicated this one-hour closed period (12pm-1pm for lunch), although Avis still accepts return times during this hour. After waiting 45 minutes for the clerk's arrival, the vehicle will be late, and an extra day's rental rate is charged. Avis, a "budget" car rental company, charges as much as blue-chip rental companies through hidden charges and fees, misinforming customers and scamming for late returns. Car rental companies with better vehicles, service and prices APPEAR more expensive while browsing for rates, but Avis, with an inferior product, will squeeze even more money out of the customer in dishonest ways.

No one bothered to tell me that the rental counter closed at midnight. I arrived 3 minutes late, due to flight delays, and found the counter void of life, while several of Thrifty’s competitors remained open to service their customers. No one from Thrifty or Kayak bothered to message me to learn of my ETA. I returned to the rental car center the next morning to find that Thrifty had not held the reservation for me. No one bothered to message me that Thrifty did not hold my reservation and that I would have to make other accommodations. This forced me to step over to a competitor’s counter and pay twice as much for a car. Big inconvenience. Big expense. Big disappointment.

Overall good. However, there is a noticeable upsell at the PDX Thrifty counter, and it is also a little bit of a shady upsell (putting add-ons on and hoping customers don’t notice). This is not my experience alone, as it happened to another customer (a friend) the same day.

Agent was friendly and courteous. I had a bit of a wait, which was not unexpected since it is a smaller office. I had tried extending my rental period online, as I needed the car for another week. It turned out to be less expensive for me to turn in the current car and pick up another (same class)($400 vs $1000). I don’t really understand why and neither did the agent. It took additional time on their end and mine, as well as out-of-the-way travel. But, I guess that’s the way of computerized service.

Car was fine, clean and the model was as requested. The pick up was terrible. There was a line of twenty people ahead of us! Medford is a small airport and when multiple flights come in I understand it can be hectic. But all the other counters had 1 or 2 people and quickly on their way. After 20-30 minutes we finally made it to the front and were told we'd have to wait for our vehicle which took another 30 minutes to appear! After that, smooth sailing!

Our arrival time was late but the gentleman assisting us was very helpfull and efficient in getting our contract processed and us on our way. Weather was a little on the rainy side but the vehicle was outstanding. It warmed up fast and got us where we needed to go. Fuel mileage was excellent also. Thanks again Alamo.

The only issue is picking up the vehicle. It is not clear where to go once you leave the building. There are only small signs at each stall which you can’t see if there are cars parked. You get a stall number but that doesn’t help when you don’t know which row it is or where the collection of Dollar cars are.

Worst rental car I have ever been in. Dirty, banged up, old and the engine made a funny noise. Was afraid to drive it. No other cars available, apparently. Can't believe it is part of their fleet. Staff were friendly and easy pick up and drop off. I am hoping that the car quality was an anomaly but make sure the car is ok before you drive it off the lot. I should have tried another rental company but the weather was bad and we were already in it.
